What does the commission do?

Telangana State Commission for Women shall work to improve the status of women in the state of Telangana and to inquire into unfair practices affecting women and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.   • Monitors enforcement of women-related laws
  • Investigates discrimination against women
  • Commission directs competent authority for action in the mechanism of redressal to the victim

Research & Data

  • Researches barriers and discrimination impeding women’s advancement
  • Undertakes promotional and educational research
  • Maintains a data bank of social, economic and political conditions

Welfare & employment

  • Monitors equal recruitment and promotion of women in public services and undertakings
  • Recommends welfare actions for social-economic development
  • Formulates equal opportunity schemes

Inspection

  • Inspects women’s jails, police stations, rescue homes, hostels and shelter homes

  • Domestic Violence / Dowry Harassment / Dowry Death / Family disputes
  • Sexual Harassment at Workplace / Work Place Harassment
  • Women Harassment / Eve-teasing
  • Service matters
  • Missing / Rape / Kidnap
  • Cyber Crime Against Women
  • Police apathy against Women
  • Trafficking / Prostitution of Women
  • Gender Discrimination including equal right to education & work
  • Outraging modesty of Women
  • Indecent Representation of Women
  • Bigamy / Polygamy

What complaints are not entertained by the State Commission for Women?

The following categories of complaints are liable to be summarily dismissed by the State Commission for Women:

  • Complaints illegible or vague, anonymous or pseudonymous
  • If the matter relates to a civil dispute between the parties such as contractual rights or obligations
  • The issue raised relates to service matters not involving any deprivation of women’s rights
  • The issue raised relates to labour/ industrial disputes not involving any deprivation of women’s rights
  • Matter is sub judice in a Court / Tribunal
  • Complaints which are pending before NCW or any other commission duly constituted under any law for the time being inforce
  • Matter has already been decided by the Commission Matter is outside the purview of the National Commission for Women on any other ground
  • This Act shall not apply to – (i) the Central Government; or (ii) any public sector undertaking of the Central Government, or any other institution owned, or controlled or financed directly by the Central Government

Members of the Commission

The Government of Telangana appointed the Chairperson and Members of the Telangana State Commission for Women on December 27th, 2020. The new members of the Commission assumed office on January 8th, 2021.
